If you're picturing cartel headlines when you think about traveling to Mexico, you're not alone, and you're also working from an outdated picture. Every year we welcome new travelers, many traveling without a partner, and the question we hear most before they book is simple: "Is this actually safe for someone like me?"

Here's an honest answer, based on years of running small-group tours in Central Mexico and over 15 years of experience in the area.

Mexico is a big, diverse country, and its reputation varies enormously from what people actually experience when visiting this beautiful place. While our guests have all been reporting how safe and comfortable they have felt in Mexico, it is the right thing to be cautious and to inform oneself before going to a new country. In Mexico, as in every part of the world, it depends where you are actually visiting and safety varies by neighborhood and region. It's the same way crime rates differ between a small town in Ohio and a big city downtown. Our tours take place in Central Mexico, colonial Oaxaca during Día de los Muertos, and the Baja peninsula. These are all areas that are well-traveled and nowhere near the regions that make international headlines. We choose our routes deliberately, and we adjust them if anything changes.

Small Groups Mean Real Supervision

Safety on the road is rarely about a country, it's about the day-to-day details: reliable transportation, vetted drivers, hotels we know personally, and guides who know exactly where you are at all times. With a maximum of around 14 travelers per group and two tour leaders, we are able to provide an extremely high standard of personal care and attention. If you feel unwell, want to skip a hike, or just need a quiet moment, someone notices and is there for you, something that's much harder in a bus of 40 strangers.

On our tours, you are in the best hands and you're never figuring out how to get to the next place or wondering if a restaurant is safe to eat at. We handle logistics, translations, and local know-how so that the only thing you have to focus on is the experience in front of you.

We care. Our small group tours are led by two tour leaders and one of us, Sid and Chris, is present on each tour. We're not a call center booking you onto a bus operated by a subcontractor. We choose every hotel, every driver, and every route personally, and we're reachable 24 hours a day while you're with us. If something isn't right, you're not stuck waiting for a distant office to respond.
